Upending the common theory that weak immune cells are to blame, researchers found that infants’ immune systems in mice actually respond to infection with more speed and strength than adults. The E3 Ubiquitin Ligase Itch Is Required for the Differentiation of Follicular Helper T Cells
Researchers found that the E3 ubiquitin ligase Itch was essential for the differentiation of follicular helper T (TFH) cells, germinal center responses and immunoglobulin G responses to acute viral infection. Itch acted intrinsically in CD4+ T cells at early stages of TFH cell development. [Nat Immunol] Abstract

Rhbdd3 Controls Autoimmunity by Suppressing the Production of IL-6 by Dendritic Cells via K27-Linked Ubiquitination of the Regulator NEMO
Investigators report that Rhbdd3, a member of the rhomboid family of proteases, suppressed the activation of dendritic cells and production of interleukin 6 triggered by Toll-like receptors. [Nat Immunol] Abstract

Generation of a New Therapeutic Peptide that Depletes Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells in Tumor-Bearing Mice
In multiple tumor models, intravenous peptibody (peptide-Fc fusion proteins) injection completely depleted blood, splenic and intratumoral myeloid-derived suppressor cells in tumor-bearing mice without affecting proinflammatory immune cell types, such as dendritic cells. Regulatory T Cells Modulate Granulomatous Inflammation in an HLA-DP2 Transgenic Murine Model of Beryllium-Induced Disease

Virus and Autoantigen-Specific CD4+ T Cells Are Key Effectors in a SCID Mouse Model of Epstein-Barr Virus-Associated Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorders
Injection of different virus-specific CD4+ T-cell clones showed that single specificities were capable of prolonging mouse survival and that the degree of tumor protection directly correlated with recognition of target cells in vitro. [PLoS Pathog] Full Article

A Role for Intrathymic B Cells in the Generation of Natural Regulatory T Cells
Mice with transgenic expression of BAFF harbor increased numbers of Helios+Foxp3+ thymic regulatory T cells and, similar to some human autoimmune conditions, also exhibit increased numbers of B cells colonizing the thymus. [J Immunol] Abstract

Investigators showed that many novel growth factors, cytokines, and chemokines are expressed by natural killer (NK) cells, and they may regulate NK-cell development or function in an autocrine manner. [Eur J Immunol] Abstract

Differential Regulation of Anti-Inflammatory Genes by p38 MAP Kinase and MAP Kinase Kinase 6
